Ioannis Zachariadis is an economist specialising on environmental and energy taxation in the Directorate General for Taxation and Customs Union of the European Commission. His work focuses on the proposed Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and the revision of the EU Energy Taxation Directive. Prior to joining the European Commission, Mr Zachariadis served as a policy analyst in the research service of the European Parliament, as well as economic consultant in the private sector. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Sussex, a MSc in Development Economics from University of Oxford and a BSc from University College London
